Here we have some normal everyday batteries. Original photo.

When you think of technology what do you think of? When I think of technology I think of holograms, flying cars, and time travel but tech can be something small like making batteries from sunlight. Researchers at university of Newcastle, located in Australia, are working to find a way to use sunlight to convert carbon dioxide into batteries. Dr. Jessica Allen, one of the researchers at University of Newcastle, and her team have found a way to convert carbon dioxide emissions into carbon leaving oxygen as the only byproduct just by the heat of the sun. Dr. Jessica also states that carbon is better at storing electrical Energy then graphite, what we mine for batteries right now.

In my opinion this type of tech is a major game changer when it comes to helping the planet as well as making life easier. With the power to convert CO2 (carbon dioxide) into carbon and oxygen we can really start cleaning up the air and quite possibly reverse the effects of global warming. Not only will it help clean up the air pollution it will also allow the production of batteries that will last longer and be cleaner to the planet. Rather than using a mineral to power the batteries, we would use an element that is naturally in the air. personally I think that its a much better option than using something that is toxic to humans. Who knows we may not need to have special disposal of batteries in the future. makingbatterDr. Jessica Allen is developing advanced materials to make better batteries.
